News

  • DHIS2 2026 Annual Conference and Climate & Health Academy brings together global community: HISP UiO hosted the 2026 DHIS2 Annual Conference and the first-ever DHIS2 Climate & Health Academy at the University of Oslo, 15–18 June, drawing 371 in-person participants from 63 countries (including 27 Ministries of Health and government bodies) and over 1,000 online.   • Nigeria launches nationwide education data platform built on DHIS2: Nigeria’s Minister of Education presented the Digital Nigeria Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), a new DHIS2-based platform covering more than 200,000 schools across 36 states, replacing a process that previously took nearly two years to produce usable school census data.   • DHIS2 in China: Covering more than 80,000 health institutions in Sichuan Province: At a plenary session, Sichuan Provincial Health Information officials introduced the province’s DHIS2 system, which collects medical, health service, and disease surveillance data across more than 80,000 institutions serving over 80 million residents.   • HISP UiO launches the DHIS2 Shared Services Fee to strengthen long-term platform sustainability: HISP UiO introduced a new collective financing model featuring a voluntary annual Shared Services Fee and a DHIS2 Contributing Partners program to help fund shared platform infrastructure and give contributing organizations a formal voice in DHIS2’s future.   • DHIS2 Impact: Improving reporting of morbidity and cause of death in Zimbabwe with ICD-11 integration: HISP Zimbabwe, working with the Ministry of Health and Child Care and support from the Global Fund, developed a solution embedding ICD-11 coding into DHIS2 Tracker programs, improving data quality and enabling near real-time inpatient morbidity and mortality reporting.   • DHIS2 news, research and publications: Recent coverage includes South Africa’s new climate and health surveillance platform built on DHIS2 data, a paper on sustainable health informatics investment in Africa, and a Springer Nature interview with UiO Professor Geir Kjetil Sandve on open-source machine learning tools for predicting climate-sensitive disease outbreaks.
  • HISP network highlights: Last month’s highlights include HISP Rwanda’s validation of the Chap tool for predicting malaria cases in Comoros, HISP Sri Lanka’s representation of DHIS2 at UN Open Source Week in New York, and a lighthearted appearance by HISP UiO’s Chap team on American TV supporting Norway’s World Cup run.   • See what’s new in DHIS2!: A recorded session from the Annual Conference covers the latest features in DHIS2 v43 and Android v3.4, with additional “New Features in Context” sessions on Epidemiological Surveillance and Supportive Supervision. Watch on YouTube
  • New DHIS2 Climate & Health software releases: Updates include DHIS2 Climate App v1.16 (improved data import via automatic batching), DHIS2 Modeling App v6 and Chap core v2 (new prediction workflow, job monitoring, outbreak alerts), and a preview of the fully open-source Open Climate Service, currently in development.   • Share your input on DHIS2 features: The DHIS2 software team is seeking community feedback on two features: notifications in DHIS2 Android and automatically generated values.
  • DHIS2 software updates & patch releases: Critical security fixes: In June, critical security hotfixes were released for DHIS2 versions 40–43 and older versions back to 2.37; all system administrators are urged to update immediately.
