Within the past month there was a number of nice topics shared by community members as contributions to the DHIS2 Community of Practice. This topic lists these community-led innovations, technical solutions, and implementation experiences. The topics highlighted here are examples of good topic contributions which you might find helpful as well as inspiration to post topics that help solve hurdles you or others in the community face in their DHIS2 journey.
Implementation & Research
Real-world configurations, metadata sharing, and specialized use-cases.
- Malaria Surveillance Dashboard Portfolio
- @Esiah_Kapinga shared a project showcasing a DHIS2 Malaria surveillance dashboard designed for the Zambia context. This is a useful reference for dashboard design and adding a special tool in your portfolio.
- Metadata: Disease Registry for Clinical Research
- In response to community member’s request, researcher @Gysanjaya shared a link to a spreadsheet containing metadata for cancer and epilepsy registries used in a teaching hospital in Indonesia. This is a follow-up from the project that was shared in DAC2022!
- NCD Scoping Review & Community Input
- A detailed look at ongoing research regarding Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). This is an active discussion where members can contribute to the “Community-Discussion” aspect of research implementation.

Feature requests & Use-Case discussion Topics
- Feature Request Potential: Program Indicator Comparison
- The Challenge: Comparing current periods with previous periods.
- A discussion between @Elmarie_Claasen from HISP SA and @brian from the DHIS2 Core Team that identified a strong case for a formal feature request.
(Note: we always tag feature finders in the copmonthly, and the reason this topic is highlighted is because it is an example for how a use-case discussion from the field is helpful in creating feature requests and supporting the software developer road-map, please see ideas for a stronger insight.)
- Line Listing App Use-Cases
- Field-based perspectives from HISP South Africa on how the Line Listing app is being utilized. Input from other implementers is highly recommended!

DHIS2 Analytics & Visualizations
- Dashboard Usage Metrics App
- Provides technical metrics on how dashboards are being consumed within an instance.
- Shared by: @irene_kimenyi (HISP Rwanda)
- Learning Journey: Creating an External Dashboard
- A practical “starting from scratch” experience shared by Stéphan Mestach @Stephan_Mestach. It documents Stephan’s inquisitive approach and reasoning while starting from scratch to build an external Superset dashboard, and includes some insights from @nnkogift .
Developer Tools and App Updates:
- Python Package: dhis2py
