Using a data element's translation in the data entry view

Hello all. My team is evaluating DHIS2 for our work in the Zambezia Province of Mozambique. I look forward to contributing to the Portuguese translation a bit down the road.

I’m having trouble with the translations of individual data elements. I’ve added a Portuguese translation to the data elements I’ve added so far, but I can’t get those translations to show up for Data Entry when I set DHIS2 to the Portuguese translation. As a bonus, I’d love to be able to use the Portuguese translations of Period Names in reports as well. Am I skipping a step? Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Yes, both “Interface Language” and “Database Language” are set to Portuguese, and I’ve restarted the server as well. I don’t know if it matters, but I’m using the Windows install.

Right, that should certainly do it - the restart should be unnecessary.

We have had problems with the translation functionality for a while, let me check the status. Not sure exactly what version you have, but please feel free to play around with this demo server:

Cool. I added a Portuguese translation of “Active Patients on ART” to the demo server: http://97.107.142.53:8080/demo/dhis-web-commons/i18n.action?className=DataElement&objectId=1464&returnUrl=http://97.107.142.53:8080/demo/dhis-web-maintenance-datadictionary/dataElement.action

However, when I went to “Settings” I got a 404 error. I think I’m bad luck.

Excellent, it works on the demo site. Any reason it wouldn’t be working in 2.0.2 (which is what I have installed) vs. the demo site you’ve got set up?

Yes, unfortunately, it was out of order for a while. Since you need this feature, I recommend just switching out your current war file for the one I just linked to (on Hudson).

Switching war files is described on page 129 of the Indian manual:

Looking more closely at the Indian description, it differs a bit.

All that is needed is actually to stop the Tomcat server, and locate the tomcat\webapps folder. In there, delete the current dhis folder and copy the new dhis.war to the folder. Then restart Tomcat. That’s should be it.

Hi,

Just a comment on demo servers. Now that the new server is set up in Oslo I think we need to centralise on this one:

-for the latest stable release

For those who like to experiment there is another demo here with the lastest build.
http://dhis.uio.no/test/

Both of them are based on sample data from Sierra Leone and have been configured with the new GIS module, dashboard and reports.

Right now they are both running on a build from 7 Dec, but as soon as 2.0.3 is out they will start to differ.

both work with admin/district login

Yup as you say the idea is that “demo” will run 2.0.3 and “test” will run a reasonably updated version (must be updated manually). “dev” is supposed to run the latest build but we are struggling with stability. More info soon…

Yup as you say the idea is that “demo” will run 2.0.3 and “test” will run a reasonably updated version (must be updated manually). “dev” is supposed to run the latest build but we are struggling with stability. More info soon…

Given that Hudson is building continuously, it is likely not too difficult to build a script that updates test. Was almost tempted to give it a go last night, but…To be weighed against the work involved in updating manually, of course

dev is continously updated and has been for quite some time, but I have some problems getting the redeployment stable.

Currently I need to manually rerun the script, some file locking issues seem to get in the way sometimes. I haven´t really worked with tomcat before and have little time to dig into the details. The infrastructure setup from the department isn´t really helping, either (ie nfs mounted disks). But will try to free up some time this week.
