Its very good to have the option to choose between drop down and buttons for data entry, however when you have more than 6 options it keeps them field drop down.
Its should be good to have a uniform display and therefore allowing buttons when buttons are chosen regardless of the number of options.
The idea of forcing a change to drop-down lists for data elements with option sets with with more than 7 options (8 including “no value”) was made to make sure the data entry forms could be rendered and work OK no matter how many options the option sets have. You could have option sets with thousands of options like the ICD 10 lists and generally more than 8 radio buttons don’t work well on the form as it becomes hard to navigate.
I can see a need for radio buttons for option sets with more than 7 options in forms with very few data elements, and where you know the number of options will never be extreme.
Not sure how we can make this configurable and user friendly though. Any suggestions?
