Translations to French and Spanish

Hello everyone
Is someone currently working on the translation of the interface to Spanish and French?
Best regards,
JM

Hi Juan,

You mean for the new features of 2.12, as I think almost all has been translated for 2.11? I think we would be very happy to have additional assistance with both languages (there are also the manuals).

Hi Juan,

yes we have an active community of translators. I am aware that labels for some of the new features in 2.12 is not yet translated. Hopefully we will be able to fix that soon.

From your name it seems you know a word or two of Spanish; if you feel like contributing to the docs, the process is well documented here:

http://www.dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/implementer/dhis2_documentation_guide.pdf

Otherwise, Jason Pickering is overseeing the documentation effort and he might be able to assist you if you get stuck.

Hi Juan

I think a lot of the Spanish activities around dhis2, including considerable translation work, have been co-ordinated through people who are members of a google group https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/dhis2-usuarios so might also make sense to get in touch with them.

Hi Knut
Both 2.11 and 2.12 are missing the translation of a few terms here and there, mainly in reporting modules and more so for Spanish than French. At PSI we are starting a pilot with countries that require both translations, we’ll contribute as much as possible.

Hi Jason - what do you mean by sync?
Pushing the translations to the latest build?

Will this happen for current (2.12) or only for next version (2.13)?

What about 2.11?

Great. As Jason alludes to, it may be easier to use the online server if there are only a few terms. The java desktop app is a good alternative, but does entail a bit more apparatus of checking out the source code and committing the translations to Launchpad.

For those of you who are not familiar with the whole process, I have setup an online translation server to facilitate the translations of DHIS2 to multiple languages, which does not involve the process of downloading the source code and using the i18n tool. This is more appropriate when you are using translators, who may not be familiar with these tools and just need something simple, or for large groups of people who may just want to crank out the translation collaboratively, and not worry about setting up the dev environment.

What I mean by “sync” is that the translations on the translation server need to be merged with the source code. Translators can do their work, and then once they are done (with the entire system or a particular module) , the translations can be merged with a particular branch. Usually, we have done this with trunk and then asked for backports to the stable branch. Up until now, we have synchronized the translations with trunk, but in theory, they could be merged with 2.11 or 2.12.

I have not updated this for a while though, but it is easily done. Some translations teams (French) have preferred to use the i18n tool, while others (Spanish) have preferred to use the translation server. Whatever works for your workflow.

Hope this helps to clarify.

Best regards,

Jason

Hi Jason

Here attached the Brazilian Portuguese version of the End User Manual in
PDF (Figures are still in English/full text translated). Things are going
pretty hectic down here. I'll keep you posted as we progress with the other
Manuals and the interface of 2.12 to Brazilian Portuguese. Please let me
know if I should commit it to Launchpad as well or rather wait untill the
other manuals are translated.

Hi Knut
Both 2.11 and 2.12 are missing the translation of a few terms here and
there, mainly in reporting modules and more so for Spanish than French. At
PSI we are starting a pilot with countries that require both translations,
we'll contribute as much as possible.

Hi Juan,
You mean for the new features of 2.12, as I think almost all has been
translated for 2.11? I think we would be very happy to have additional
assistance with both languages (there are also the manuals).

Hello Bob

Thank you for the link. I posted to the group a couple of days ago but I see there’s not much movement there, there are 15 messages sense Dec. 2012 (including mine)

Hi Juan,

yes we have an active community of translators.

Otherwise, Jason Pickering is overseeing the documentation effort and he might be able to assist you if you get stuck.

best regards,

Lars

Hi all,

I hadent internet acces for a week… so thats why the big silence in this thread from the spanish translators (well… from me)

About the translation, it was completed for 2.11, so anything new for 2.12 is not translated yet, would be great to have it updated.

About the spanish language group… It is true is not very active, but every post has got an answer (untill now) … I thing there isnt a lot of movement because all memebers in that list are also here, and when we need a high level of expertise we always end up in the english (experienced) list …

I believe It may change as spanish speaking users get more and more expertise… what do you think???

Thanks for your your interest in helping out Juan M!

Hi Juan

I think a lot of the Spanish activities around dhis2, including considerable translation work, have been co-ordinated through people who are members of a google group https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/dhis2-usuarios so might also make sense to get in touch with them.
