HISP Dev champions program

The DHIS2 Core Team has launched a new “Dev Champions” program for software developers from HISP groups around the world. The program aims to create closer ties between the core development team at the HISP Centre and the software development teams at HISP groups through nominated Dev Champions—individuals who will be the focal point for active engagement, collaboration, knowledge and experience sharing with the core team at UiO, as well as between the development teams at different HISP groups.

Through this new program, the Dev Champions will have regular touch points to surface any challenges that their teams are facing, and their feedback will be fed first-hand into the work stream of the core team in general, and the Extensibility team specifically. The group of Dev Champions will also help foster a community for cross-HISP collaboration and knowledge sharing, as well as championing best practices and new DHIS2 features within their development communities. Additionally, they will play an active role in reviewing and designing new features, evaluating existing ones and contributing to the global Extensibility products.

The Dev Champions will engage closely with the core team at UiO through the core Extensibility team, which was established in 2024 to focus on building tools and processes that help implementers and developers extend DHIS2 functionality.

In the pilot phase of the program, we selected Dev Champions from five HISP groups: HISP Tanzania, HISP Vietnam, Saudigitus in Mozambique, HISP Uganda, and HISP West and Central Africa. The initial cohort was selected to be representative of HISP groups at different stages of scaling, and with different challenges and extensibility requirements. The group has already met several times and helped shape some of the extensibility priorities for the next release.

After the pilot phase is concluded, the program will expand to cover more HISP groups to continue the growth of this exciting initiative.
