Help - Pivot Tables Export to Excel - Challenge - Each month exported to separate worksheet

Hi All,

I am trying to use the DHIS2 Pivot Tables and encountering some challenges.

The challenge lies with the End-Product i.e. the Excel sheet produced once I follow the “select Data > Pivot > Download to Excel” process. While I successfully select my pivoting parameters and the table produced on DHIS seems excellent, My problem is that the resultant Pivot table (once I click “download to Excel” exports each month to its own separate worksheet and not onto one combined worksheet where I can then proceed to pivot the data as desired.

Is this the current set-up within DHIS2 or am I missing a step?

It seems to make sense to me to have all the data exported into one worksheet, and then pivoted by users as need be.

Please Advise.

Thanks,

Beatrice

Hi Beatrice,

Nice to hear from you again.

The better solution would be to use the MyDatamart tool described here

http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/apb.html

This tool will provide you with a normal pivot table, which can be
manipulated as per normal by users.

Best regards,
Jason

Hi Beatrice,

I think you might have selected too much data for download. If you are downloading data for the Kenya orgunit you should not select facility as the analysis level, it will be way too much to download. Try to use district or county level instead. Or if you need facility level, first select e.g. a district as your orgunit to narrow down the amount of data. Also try just a few months as Jason suggests. If it doesn’t work out there is a great team of pivot and mydatamart experts at the HMIS division if you are still in Nairobi.

Hey Jason,

Absolutely wonderful too hearing from you again…How are you keeping?

Thanks for responding so promptly… We finally saw the light & now on DHIS2:)

I logged onto the Online Kenya Database, and yes I had read through the MydataMart connection process, I even tried it out some time last week, but it was taking so so so long to export the data, over 3 hours and yet I had a good & stable internet connection… or so I think…i eventually gave up…

Whats the step by step process of using the Mydatamart tool & setting up the ODBC connection if at all, so I can utilize the pivot tables data from the Kenya Online database?

Do all the end users out there have to set up the ODBC connections to use Pivot Tables or can this be automated for the web version?

Thanks a million,

Beatrice

Hi Beatrice,

Good to hear you guys are using DHIS2.

I am not really sure what the problem might ben with download of data.
You might want to look at the console of the Mydatamart just to be
sure that there is no errors which might by reported, but may not show
up in the UI.

I would also try and download a small amount of data, say for only one
month, just to confirm that the connection is working.

I think the user manual gives pretty good instructions about how to
set up the application. Every user which will use MyDatamart will need
the ODBC driver installed on their machine in order to utilize the
data from the local copy of the datamart.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Jason
