- Fighting NCDs in Malawi and Sri Lanka: Malawi and Sri Lanka are partnering with local HISP groups and their ministries of health to integrate non-communicable disease screening and patient tracking into national DHIS2 systems as part of the Diabetes Compass project, a multi-country initiative supported by the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF). More
- Immunization impact through stronger data systems: A new article on Gavi’s VaccinesWork website shares lessons learned from eight years of collaboration with Gavi, illustrating how open-source platforms and country-level technical assistance can drive rapid advances in immunization program management.
- DHIS2 for Nutrition: A new webpage explores how DHIS2 supports routine nutrition monitoring, child growth tracking, acute malnutrition management, and maternal nutrition programs through integrated data systems and mobile data collection.
- Climate & Health Webinar: HISP UiO hosted a webinar sharing outputs from phase 1 of its Wellcome-funded DHIS2 Climate & Health project, and a new academic paper co-authored by HISP Uganda and HISP UiO researchers was published on legitimacy-building for climate services in Uganda’s health system.
- DHIS2 for Education findings: Researchers from the “Empowering Districts and Schools with Data” project, funded by the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (GPE-KIX), traveled to the Gambia and Togo to document what digital education infrastructure looks like on the ground. More
- New research on routine DHIS2 data: Recent publications highlight the underutilized potential of routine health information system data, including a researcher’s guide to program evaluations, a systematic review of maternal and newborn health monitoring across 32 Sub-Saharan African countries, and a case study showing Nepal’s use of DHIS2 Tracker for HIV research at up to 89% cost savings compared with traditional studies.
- HISP network highlights: Last month featured a World Health Organization (WHO) webinar on DHIS2 packages for HIV, TB, hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs); a mental health data bootcamp in Uganda; and a French-language Data Quality Academy in Senegal that brought together 33 participants from 12 countries, and much more!
- Call for papers — digital sovereignty: Submissions are open for a special issue of the Information Systems Journal (ISJ) focused on digital sovereignty, co-edited by HISP UiO professor Petter Nielsen. The editors invite empirically grounded and theoretically ambitious research examining digital sovereignty as a socio-technical accomplishment.
- Annual Conference registration: Registration is still open for the 2026 DHIS2 Annual Conference and Climate & Health Academy, taking place in Oslo this June.

- DHIS2 Technology Partners program launched: A new structured framework for collaboration with developers and stewards of digital public goods and other complementary software platforms, kicking off with a webinar series showcasing initial partners including MOSIP, WorldPop, OpenHEXA, OpenCRVS, OpenFN, Open mSupply, and Neotree.
- New Climate app release: Version 1.15.0 of the DHIS2 Climate App adds support for local climate and weather data integration from country-owned Enhanced National Climate Services (ENACTS) systems, available for DHIS2 versions 41 and newer.
- DHIS2 Android app reaches 1 million downloads: The DHIS2 Android Capture app has surpassed 1 million downloads worldwide, with more than 100,000 active users opening the app every month. Learn more
- Software Release webinar — DHIS2 v43 and Android v3.4: A software release webinar on May 20 will cover performance improvements and new features in the upcoming DHIS2 v43 and Android Capture v3.4 releases.
Capacity Building
- New DHIS2 tutorials on validation rules: Five new tutorials on validation rules, covering introduction, data entry, rule analysis, threshold-based analysis, and notifications, are now available!
- Upcoming webinar — civil registry lookup in Capture: A May 18 webinar will demonstrate a reference implementation for integrating the DHIS2 Capture app with a civil registry for faster, more consistent data entry.
- Webinar recordings available: Recordings are now available from recent sessions on DHIS2 Climate & Health achievements, immunization microplanning with WorldPop data, and epidemiological surveillance features in the Maps app.
- Francophone Academy: A DHIS2 Data Access and Analysis Configuration Academy will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, July 13–17, 2026.

- CoP Monthly: The monthly roundup highlights community innovations to be presented at the Annual Conference, top discussion topics from April, and new resources from community member @Mayamiko’s DHIS2 metadata video series.
