I have previously reported this but got no response. I can deploy DHIS2 2.3 downloaded 8/16 but when I try to start it, I get the message, "Sorry, an error has occurred, but don't worry, the information is in the log". The information is out of PermGen space. I am running with 1024m of PermGen space. Logs are attached
are u sure the -XX:MaxPermSize=1024M is set correctly… even 256M should be fine, if the -Xms1024m and -Xmx2048m or even smaller is set and you are trying to run both OpenMRS and DHIS2 in one tomcat
If you are running through the windows service, you may have to change it through the service window to change JAVA_OPTS.

Hm, do you have multiple dhis directories in your webapps directory?
seems like it trying to startup two instances..
Also, where exactly are you setting your permgen space?

Are you running on an empty database? I don't really understand why
you should get an permgen error at startup.
I have tested it successfully on windows vista/7, but never on XP, so
there might be some special considerations there?
What does your hibernate file look like? also, have you tested it with
our live distribution?

No, just one directory. Permgen space is being set in the properties box of the Services window of Windows XP, I start Tomcat manually and put in the parameters each time. I have a JAVA_OPTS environment variable (from which I get the values is put in the Services window), but previous experimentation showed that that didn't work with Tomcat 6. I do believe the larger values are being accepted because of memory usage monitored in Task Manager, but I would love to put the values in some config file somewhere and forget about them.

Answers interleaved.
Is there some chance that there is a machine-specific feature, e.g. something that uses the CPUID or IP address as a seed for encryption, that might make dump and restore not work?

** No, I am running with a DB restored from a backup of the Oslo Ghana DB
I have tested it successfully on windows vista/7, but never on XP, so
there might be some special considerations there?
** I've been running successfully on XP for over a year
What does your hibernate file look like? also, have you tested it with
our live distribution?
** You mean the properties file? It's the same one that ran with a previous version of the DB, I just wanted to get back in synch with Oslo.

Ok, tomcat seems to think that there should be jars/resource in the
webapps/dhis2 directory, and you seem to be deploying as dhis.war,
correct? and so, you have only a dhis directory.
You should try and find the reference to webapps/dhis2 in your tomcat
directory, since tomcat seems to be confused and is trying to startup
an old deployed version of dhis (probably with the name dhis2.war).
Tomcat usually creates a bunch of temporary files (not just in
webapps), and these should be cleaned.

Morten I am sure this is the point - or at least a point - of misconfiguration.
The only other way tomcat should be looking for a dhis2 directory is
if Roger has at some stage been handcrafting a dhis2 context for this
rather than just deploying the war. I suspect this is what the static
context part of the log message is about. Roger did you ever do
something like this?
Mind you if that fails (as it does) I would imagine tomcat would
continue as normal, deploying dynamically the dhis.war. Need to look
further down the log file more closely ...
