Hi DHIS2 community!
Is it possible to run DHIS2 to rural health center in offline mode (not cloud-based, health center has no Internet)? The database will be exported afterwards and shall be sync’d to online DHIS2 instance that will serve as an integrated data warehouse for many offline rural health centers?
Thank you

Hi Alison,
There are a couple of options, none of which are ideal. It depends on the scale of your operation.
-
You could install the whole of DHIS2 on a laptop and run locally. The challenge is this requires someone to set it up, keep the metadata synchronized (so you can in fact do exports and imports), and also to do upgrades. It can work ok for a handful of relatively stable installations, but gets messy and almost nightmarish if you are talking hundreds of health centers.
-
A very limited part of the functionality still does run offline if only you are online the first time (mainly aggregate data entry)
-
The best option, which we are recommending, is to work with our Android solutions, which work well offline and some tablets provide 10 hours of battery life or more. However, they are still very much work in progress, and so far mainly limited to data entry.
