Using data for impact: Improving newborn programming through revised indicators on the customizable and adjustable DHIS2 platform

Poor indicator definition is increasingly becoming a major challenge in many DHIS2 systems especially where multiple partners/donors are implementing similar programs and pushing data into the national systems.

I looked at the old maternal health reporting forms, they were not well thought through and could lead to confusion as to what was really wanted. Data quality issues start with poor form design compounded with poor selection of what data are be reported and assisted with poor understanding of definitions. This is worsened by lack of feedback and lack of discussion of what the data is revealing. Only a comprehensive review and change can lead to the improved outcomes as described above. Well done.
