Dear DHIS2 Development Team,
We would like to bring to your attention that the current South Sudan flag asset used in DHIS2 does not reflect the officially standardized national flag. The version presently displayed includes a dark blue triangle and a tilted gold star, which corresponds to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party flag, rather than the official national flag of the Republic of South Sudan.
On 25 August 2023, the Media Authority of South Sudan issued an official advisory standardizing the national flag design. The advisory clearly states that the use or distribution of flag versions featuring a dark blue triangle or a tilted star for official purposes is not permitted.
To ensure DHIS2 remains compliant with national regulations and accurately represents country identity, we kindly request that the South Sudan flag asset be updated to align with the official 2023 standardized design.
At present, under System Settings → Appearance, selecting a country automatically displays the corresponding flag. For South Sudan, this selection currently references an incorrect asset. In addition to updating the official flag, we would also like to propose a potential enhancement in future DHIS2 versions to allow users to upload custom country flag assets, while preserving the existing country-based flag selection. This would provide additional flexibility in cases where national standards evolve or where default assets do not accurately reflect official specifications.

Kind regards,
James Poijo
