Unable to create new root org unit in demo instance

Hi - I am using the demo Sierra Leone instance of DHIS2, and I’m trying to add another org hierarchy for another country, Somalia, to test things out. However, I am unable to either create a new root org unit, move Sierra Leone to a different position in the org, or even move another existing org unit to the root position. In the documentation, it says if you don’t select a new parent org unit, the selected org unit will move to the root position, but when I do this, the “Move” button never becomes active, and I’m unable to complete the action. If I try to move an existing org unit to the root position, it says to make sure no org unit is selected, but I’m unable to de-select the existing root org unit!

Am I missing something obvious?

Also, how can I search the public DHIS2 question archive? I was unable to search to see if this question was already answered previously, because there is no ‘search’ feature on the “View public archive” page in launchpad, unless I’m missing it somewhere.

Thanks in advance,

Carolyn

To the last question, you can google all messages. Just include dhis2 in the query.

Hi Carolyn,

As for using the demo, please go ahead, but be aware that we refresh everything every night, so you will lose whatever you do. Not exactly sure if we still support the use case of multiple root orgunits (it is not a very common one) or whether it is just the case the admin user has some restrictions. I do suggest you test things also on your own laptop (e.g using DHIS Live)

Regards,

Knut

Hi Knut - thanks for the quick response and the tip about search.

Let me try to clarify what I’m trying to do. We have our own instance of DHIS2 set up, and we have the demo data from Sierra Leone uploaded. Sierra Leone is the root org unit. I am trying to create a new root org unit, named Country, and move the Sierra Leone hierarchy under the new root org unit (so that I can add another branch of org units for another country). I am not trying to create multiple root org units. In the online documentation (https://www.dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/ch04s02.html), in the 4.2.5. Hierarchy operations section, it says “If no parent is selected then the orgunit will be moved up to root level (top of the hierarchy)”. In fact, this cannot be done, because it’s impossible to un-select the root org unit in the hierarchy. Similarly, I am unable to move Sierra Leone to any other position other than the root org unit. I am also unable to rename Sierra Leone org unit, and I’m unable to delete Sierra Leone org unit. A programmer I spoke with confirmed as well that she was never able to create a new root org unit in the user interface, and it’s only possible to do so from the server end by a programmer, which is not ideal. Can you provide any clarity?

In searching further online, I wonder if I am experiencing this same bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dhis2/+bug/1297183

Thanks very much,

Carolyn
