Transfer data from one category option to another

Hello Devs,

I would like to know if it is possible to transfer data stored against a category option to a another one?

There was a mistake in the initial setup of the category options for the data element and users have entered data against that option. The correct category option already exists in the system, and I am asking to know if this is doable right now in DHIS2.

I hope this makes sense.

Hi Ifeanyi,

You can always export the data and then import it back in with the correct reference. And then after that overwrite the original data.

Hi

It’s not really as straightforward as just exporting, correcting, and importing:

  1. If there are NIL data value records existing with the correct catcombo, you can do exporting->correcting->importing, followed by deletion of the original records (easy if you are on 2.26 because you can re-import the oriiginal catcombo records with deleted set to true).

  2. If there are SOME data value records existing with the correct catcombo, it gets more complicated because you then have to decide which record to keep: the original “wrong catcombo” record, or the original “correct catcombo” record? If both have the same value then the choice do not matter, but if they have different values you have to choose - either by selecting one or the other by default or else by using e.g. the LastUpdated field to determine which of them are “newest”.
