Sample of autorities given to user roles

Hello,

Would it be possible to share samples of authorities you give to your different user roles ? Fo example for a Data entry clerk, a Facility health records and information officer, a District health records and information officer, a Province health manager, a National health information system division officer, and a National health manager (which are list of the commonly found positions described in the guide).

Best regards,

Kader

Hi Kader - at PSI, an international NGO, we have created generic roles that group some authorities. You can look into our roles here

Thank you Rodolfo.

Is there a minimal set of authorities to give to a role for enabling access to DHIS 2? I’ve set these authorities to a role name “data entry” and create a user with this role, but the user isn’t authorized to enter the site:

Add/update data value

Approve data

Archive data

Delete data value

Export data

Import data

See data entry value

See data visualizer module

See GIS module

See report module

I checked in the database (“userrolemembers” table) if the userid of my “data entry” user were associated to the correct “userroleid” of “data entry” role. Everything is correct there. When setting ALL for authorities of this role, the user is granted access…

Also in “update user” page, elements belonging to the list “Data capture and maintenance organisation units” are bold by default; when selecting 1 organization unit, this action removes the bold formatting. In “Data output and analysis organisation units”, however, selecting 1 organization unit changes its color to orange - which indicates, as for many other modules of DHIS 2, that this organization unit is being selected.

Is there something to understand with this “Data capture and maintenance organisation units” list ? This is not detailed in the documentation. Does it explain why my user can’t get access to DHIS 2 ?

Thanks.

Are you sure it is not just that the default page is the Dashboard, and the user does not have the authority to view the dashboard?

Hi Kader,

Olav is probably right; one would typically give everyone access to the dashboard (but not necessarily analytic modules), which is usually the default start page (go to System Settings - Appearance to change). Then all you need is one role that contains the authority to view the dashboard and assign the role to all users, including data entry staff.

Alternatively, make sure that the authority for dashboard access is included in all roles.

Hi Rodolfo,

I read first this section before trying to add my users. In section 5, it is said: “Users must be assigned to at least one data capture and maintenance organisation unit. Users will have access to all children of the organisation units which have been assigned to them.”

The problem is that, under my configuration, on the “update user” page, elements belonging to the list “Data capture and maintenance organisation units” (left) are presented in bold format; when selecting 1 organization unit in this list, this action removes the bold formatting (and does not change its color to orange). In “Data output and analysis organisation units” (right), however, selecting 1 organization unit changes its color to orange - which indicates, as for many other modules of DHIS 2, that this organization unit is being selected. And clicking on an organization unit in the left list doesn’t make a restriction for my user.

Are you having this under your configuration or is it an issue with my install ?

Best regards,

Kader

Hi Kader -
For Data Capture, selected org units get bold (no orange)

For Data Output, select org units get orange.

For testing, it is VERY important that you either empty your browser cache, or start an incognito session in Chrome, otherwise what you get is the org tree of the previous user.

I understand my error: in case of restricting users to specific org units, the top level unit and all parent units must be first deselected…

I’m facing this last problem concerning this subject: for the user of my role “data entry”, I only have access, within the Apps menu, to Dashboard, Data entry, and Reports. I was expecting to get the GIS and the data visualizer modules since they were specified through “See data visualizer module”, “See GIS module”, and “Administrate GIS” in the authorities list of this role. Is there something else to add in the role lists for making these modules available ?

Best regards,

Kader

Hi Kader -
For Data Capture, selected org units get bold (no orange)

For Data Output, select org units get orange.

For testing, it is VERY important that you either empty your browser cache, or start an incognito session in Chrome, otherwise what you get is the org tree of the previous user.

Kader

Thank you Bram and Olav.

That was the authoritie “See Dashboard integration module” who needed to be added.

Remains the problem of restriction of organization units. I can’t guess how to use the “Data capture and maintenance organisation units” list to do this. Can I have your help ?

Thanks a lot.

Thanks.

Hello,

Would it be possible to share samples of authorities you give to your different user roles ? Hello,

Just wanted to inform that the tomcat service needed to be restarted for these modules to appear correctly in the app list for my user. Setting up only the authorities didn’t seem to be enough under my install.

Best regards,
