Physical Device Testing

For DHIS2 Capture development, I think it’s important to test on physical devices to account for different Android versions and SoCs. How many devices do you usually include in your testing matrix? Also, which specific models are you using or would you recommend?

Hi @yukke2tanaka

Very interesting topic! Thanks for sharing… What about testing using Emulators? I think they provide quite a similar result.

Hi @yukke2tanaka

From my experience, it works best to prioritize the devices that will actually be used in the field if you have an implementation in mind. If not, you can start with a small set of physical devices, making sure you cover an older and a newer Android version and different performance profiles. Emulators can then complement this by covering screen sizes, orientations, and quick UI checks. For me, it’s more about covering specs and form factors than specific models.

Hi @yukke2tanaka

Just wanted to let you know that you’re more than welcome to share your findings and experience testing with the community.

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I would like to know what phisical devices are used for testing DHIS2 Capture before releases. Any shared criteria or guideline? for example, how many Android versions and SoCs, etc?

Of course, I am willing to share once tested.
