Org. unit hierarchy

Dear all,

I´m using dhis2 with IE8 (8.0.7601.17514) and it doesn’t seem to be able to load the org. unit hierarchy when I go to Data Entry. It remains loading and show an “error” icon at the bottom of the page. I have cleared the browser cache but nothing changes.

Dhis2 and browser errors details can be found below:

I would appreciate suggestions on how to solve it. Thanks!

Hi Marta,

Make the brauser downward comparability from IE8 to IE7 and try.
For doing this follow the process given below

  1. Tools → F12 developers tool → Browser Mode
and select compatible internet explorer and try

Hope this will solve your existing problem.

Hi Marta,

What version of Windows are you on? I see from the user-agent string that it ‘Windows NT 6.1’ which I assume mean W7? If you do a system upgrade, you should have IE9 available (or even IE10?)

Are you using IE8 because you need to support it, or is it just what’s available? I would suggest using either chrome or firefox.

Hi again,

Brajesh, I just checked and the system was already working on compatibility mode

Morten, you are right it is W7. About the browser IE8 and Firefox 20 are the 2 browser that weshould support, so I was checking if dhis2 works properly for both of them. For firefox I found no issue…

I asked the IT dept. and they said that IE supported version should be upgraded soon, but is 8 for now…

Is there any way to solve it for that version?

thanks!

I'll see what I can do.. I'm not sure how long we can keep on supporting
IE8 though, a lot of the stuff we have been implementing lately is using a
bunch of new HTML 5 techs, which mean at some point it will be more or less
impossible to support on IE8.

With IE10 released for Windows 7 SP1 and IE9 on Vista, we should remove support for IE8.
For the next release I suggest mentioning support for IE10 and higher.
Vista will be ignored, but one should be able to install Chrome or Firefox anyways...

good morning,

I meant is there is something that could be done to fix it … on my side.

As Saptarshi said, if it is a matter of versions (and since IE8 seems to be a bit “old” and we are still in an evaluation process )

I would write in my report “compatible with IE10” and suggest to upgrade our supported version.

Thank you all

Hi Marta,

I don’t think there is anything you can do on your side (besides changing or upgrading browser). I will try and make it work in IE8, if its only our storage engine that is the problem, there might be a way to support it. Of course, a newer browser is definitely recommended.

Hi Marta,

I have made several IE8 fixes, and backported to 2.13. Could you try again? I’m not able to get it fully working here, but it could be because I’m running IE in a virtualmachine with not that much memory available…

That’s great Marta. So it also works fine when there are more orgUnits? could you please test on our demo site [1] and login with admin/district. I’m a bit worried that it doesn’t work properly when there are many orgUnits…

i´m afraid it doesn´t seem to be loading it all

For Sierra Leone demo, only 4 nodes appear for the first level children, but If I open any of them, the next level is complete.

I didn´t see the error before because for our demo It loads five nodes at first children level, which i all we have

screenshot attached

I cleared the cache but got the same result. Anything else I could try?

Hi Marta,

I don’t think there is anything you can do on your side (besides changing or upgrading browser). I will try and make it work in IE8, if its only our storage engine that is the problem, there might be a way to support it. Of course, a newer browser is definitely recommended.

As Saptarshi said, if it is a matter of versions (and since IE8 seems to be a bit “old” and we are still in an evaluation process )

I would write in my report “compatible with IE10” and suggest to upgrade our supported version.

Thank you all

I’ll see what I can do… I’m not sure how long we can keep on supporting IE8 though, a lot of the stuff we have been implementing lately is using a bunch of new HTML 5 techs, which mean at some point it will be more or less impossible to support on IE8.

Thanks for checking Marta. I’m not sure if its related to the storage unit or not, I will try and have a look. I think for 50-100 orgUnits there should be no problem, which hopefully means that a data entry clerk will be able to do her or his job without any issues.

I will see if it can be fixed fully, but at least we are one step closer.

Hi Marta,

Could you please try either our newest trunk war [1] or our trunk server [2] with IE8? I can be a bit slow if you have lots of orgUnits on your user, but for most cases it should be fine (for data entry clerks etc). If you have users with large amounts of OUs, you could also try our offline OU-level setting, which means it will only download parts of the tree.

We have also fixed a bug with OUST, so it should (hopefully) be working 100% on IE8 now.

Thanks for checking Marta. I’m not sure if its related to the storage unit or not, I will try and have a look. I think for 50-100 orgUnits there should be no problem, which hopefully means that a data entry clerk will be able to do her or his job without any issues.

I will see if it can be fixed fully, but at least we are one step closer.

i´m afraid it doesn´t seem to be loading it all

For Sierra Leone demo, only 4 nodes appear for the first level children, but If I open any of them, the next level is complete.

I didn´t see the error before because for our demo It loads five nodes at first children level, which i all we have

screenshot attached

I cleared the cache but got the same result. Anything else I could try?

That’s great Marta. So it also works fine when there are more orgUnits? could you please test on our demo site [1] and login with admin/district. I’m a bit worried that it doesn’t work properly when there are many orgUnits…

Hi Morten,

it loads the hierarchy now, thank you very much.

You can check it in the picture attached (It loads only one center because of the user i logged in with)

Marta

Hi Marta,

I have made several IE8 fixes, and backported to 2.13. Could you try again? I’m not able to get it fully working here, but it could be because I’m running IE in a virtualmachine with not that much memory available…

ok, thanks!!

PS: I personally use chrome, but users here have to use the standard software and they have no permissions to install or upgrade anything :frowning:

Hi Marta,

I don’t think there is anything you can do on your side (besides changing or upgrading browser). I will try and make it work in IE8, if its only our storage engine that is the problem, there might be a way to support it. Of course, a newer browser is definitely recommended.

good morning,

I meant is there is something that could be done to fix it … on my side.

As Saptarshi said, if it is a matter of versions (and since IE8 seems to be a bit “old” and we are still in an evaluation process )

I would write in my report “compatible with IE10” and suggest to upgrade our supported version.

Thank you all

Is there any way to solve it for that version?

I’ll see what I can do… I’m not sure how long we can keep on supporting IE8 though, a lot of the stuff we have been implementing lately is using a bunch of new HTML 5 techs, which mean at some point it will be more or less impossible to support on IE8.
