October 2025 Developer Meetup: Using AI Tools for DHIS2 Development – Presentation and Open Mic!

We’re inviting you to join our next developer meetup at 2025-10-09T09:00:00Z and discuss an exciting topic: AI Tools!

AI development assistants and tools have become increasingly common, and they can be helpful and powerful. When working with DHIS2-related development, though, these tools often need more context to be provided in order to be useful. In this meetup, we’ll discuss these tools both generally and in the context of DHIS2 development.

The meetup will be in two parts:

1. Presentation About AI Tools: Join @eirikhaugstulen, a DHIS2 Core Team developer with a lot of experience and enthusiasm around AI tools, as he presents some AI tips and tools that are helpful for DHIS2 developers.

2. Open Mic: How are you using AI? We’ll open the mic after the presentation for all of you developers to share how you’re using AI in your development projects. Bring a short presentation (<5 min) on how you’re using them, and you can inspire others, increase our shared knowledge, and get feedback on your strategies.

To register for the meetup, please use this link, click here . You will receive a DM on the CoP with the direct zoom link before the event! If you have registered before, you can use the same link.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Hi Kai

We have a simple LMIS use case for a DHIS2-RTS handsfree version using AI for voice recognition (similar to what Jose presented) for filling in numeric values into a Tracker program which I hope can be developed and would significantly improve usability. I have set up a Google AI mockup which allows demonstrating what we would like the tool to do in DHIS2. I would appreciate if you can consider a short slot (< 5 min) for a short demo. Perhaps there are other users who are looking for similar features which would encourage development of future, native, DHIS2 functionality for voice recognition. In any case the potential is huge and we want to make sure to stay in the loop and contribute useful and feasible use cases.

Awesome, that’s a very cool concept - thanks for the interest @George_McGuire! :raising_hands:

This session promises to be very interesting. We would like, if possible, to include a very short demo of our AI Data Entry Tool. This tool was initially presented at the DAC 2025 conference (see poster in the CoP) and it is currently available for testing. We believe a live look at its capabilities would be valuable and food for thoughts.

BTW, this is a demo video of the AI data entry tool

Awesome, thanks for the interest @ctejo! That is impressive!

We’d love to have you present – the challenge is that this session is targeted more towards applying AI tools during the development process, especially aiding with coding – do you have experiences to share in that regard?

Either way, there seems to be enough interest in discussions around integrating AI tools into a product, as you have with the data entry tool and as George is proposing above, that we want to organize the meetup next month around exactly that theme (cc @George_McGuire) – and we’d definitely want you to present there! Would that work for you?

Still feel free to join this week, and share some AI development assistance tips if you have some! :slightly_smiling_face:

It would be quite interesting if you’d share the backend/coding stuff that enabled this AI tool and what challenges you’re currently facing from a developer perspective!

Sure! We will be in contact for next week.

Anyway, see you all tomorrow

Thank you again everyone for coming!

It is always a pleasure to see that so many people show up for these things, so I am very grateful for you all. Since the Presentation Deck was coded as an app this time, passing it around is not so simple. I’ve therefore hosted it online, and you can find it through this link: https://meetup.devotta.io/ (Currently desktop only).

Note: I have transcribed and summarized the relevant parts of the presentation and added this as speaker notes on the website. These notes can be accessed by clicking the sticky note icon in the dock or pressing ‘N’. This way, you can easily find back to my thoughts on different topics.

And again, if there are any concepts that are unclear, or if you just want to chat about anything AI-related, please let me know. I always try to put some effort into these things to make it worthwhile, so everything that can help me improve in the future is very much appreciated.

Best,

Eirik
