In its promotion of maternal and child health, Plan International Nigeria has boosted iron-folic acid for pregnant women and zinc scale up projects in northern Nigeria, with funding from Micronutrient Initiative.

The project contributed to the reduction of maternal mortality during pregnancy by addressing cases of anaemia among northern women and child mortality to diarrhoea.

“Overall, about 944,920 children under five years were tracked on the DHIS2 platform to have received zinc and 827,613 pregnant women with ANC/IFAS and monitored 138,149 pregnant women received IFAS supplement during the project life cycle.

The project, through its community component has directly reached 294,936 pregnant women with ANC/IFAS services and monitored 138,149 pregnant women for compliance with IFAS by the CBHVs between January 2018 and March 2019."
