GeoExt releases will not include Ext, so people using GeoExt will need
to get Ext from http://extjs.com. Because of that GeoExt falls into
Ext’s ux licensing exception
(<http://extjs.com/products/ux-exception.php>) and can be released
under a permissive license like BSD.
MapFish aims to provide a more packaged solution; in particular
MapFish releases do include Ext. Because of that MapFish Client must
be GPL. We haven’t received too much complain about MapFish Client
being GPL at this point, so we haven’t considered taking Ext out of
MapFish Client and releasing the whole MapFish distribution under a
BSD-like license. At this point it is not clear to me what directions
we will follow with respect to that.

Wrt, MapFish being GPL and the possibility to switch to a more liberal
license just like GeoExt, I’ll leave that up to the MapFish PSC.
