Mobile Device Management - systems and experiences

Dear DHIS2 community

I was wondering if any of you has experience to share on Mobile Device Management in low and middle income settings…

As part of a large scale Android deployment we are studying alternatives on which systems and approaches to follow.

Did you use an cloud-based solution? On premises? Open-source?

Thank you

Gonçalo

Hi Gonçalo,

Thank you for your pertinent question. Within the community, there are currently a range of approaches in use. Some implementations for instance have been known to use proprietary technologies such as Samsung Knox. In addition to this, recently I understand others have been using Google Mobile Management tools. Finally, some have implemented a decentralised device management approach, with devices distributed with tools to restrict usage to specific suites of applications.

We are hoping to cover these and other topics in depth at the forthcoming Android Implementation Academy where experts will present their different approaches and we certainly wish to hear what you will decide in regards to this. I hope others who are involved in the same area will also help to answer your questions.

Regards,

Ranga

Hi Gonçalo,

Very interesting question. We use mobile technology (custom mobile app synchronized with DHIS2) for nutrition surveillance in Sri Lanka. We currently use Google Play Store. But there were different opinions shared in recently concluded DHIS2 experts academy regarding this. Would love to hear inputs from others.

Gonçalo,

My colleagues and I have experience with MDM for other projects outside of DHIS2 but are currently working to get a large scale android rollout setup with an MDM solution. Feel free to message me directly if you have any specific questions.

Best,

Chase Freeman
