Hello team,
Out here, we are having challenges tracking the usage/dispensing of drugs at the facility level. We’re up to look for ways on how we can leverage the DHIS2 platform that is in use countrywide.
The main challenge is how we can configure the data elements ← data sets, data element groups and data element group sets in our favor to track the following:
Received drugs supplies & dates
Particular drug supplied dosage count & expiry
Daily dispensing count - and possibly who’s the recipient for every dose given out.
Other info we wish to keep include batch numbers, re-order levels.
From our end, we have some knowledge on developing DHIS2 apps and may work on one if need be.
I will highly appreciate your wise advises, we are open for new ideas.
I think this is a very good and relevant idea. As a physician, I understand the need to keep track of every dose of medication. More than once, I have found that my patients who received opioid analgesics developed an addiction. Each new visit to my office turned into making up and intensifying the symptoms of the disease. Many of them began using other drugs, such as cocaine. Many admitted to me that they were using it, and I helped them fight this new addiction, but I know that many people have nowhere to go for this help. If you want help, you should visit fherehab.com. I’m sure you will be able to successfully implement your ideas through this thread. I wish you the best of luck.
Thank you for reaching out regarding your challenges with tracking drug usage and dispensing at your facility level. Leveraging the DHIS2 platform for this purpose is a great initiative, and I’m happy to provide some guidance on how you can configure the platform to meet your needs.
To track drug usage and dispensing effectively, you can configure the DHIS2 platform by creating specific data elements, data sets, data element groups, and data element group sets. Here’s how you can structure it to track the information you mentioned:
Data Elements:
Received drugs supplies & dates: Create data elements to capture information about the drugs received, including the name of the drug, quantity received, and the date of receipt.
Particular drug supplied dosage count & expiry: Create data elements to record the dosage count for each specific drug supplied and its expiry date.
Daily dispensing count: Create data elements to track the number of doses dispensed each day.
Recipient for every dose given out: You can create data elements to capture the recipient of each dose given out, such as their ID or name.
Other info like batch numbers and re-order levels: Similarly, create data elements to record batch numbers and re-order levels for the drugs.
Data Sets:
Create data sets to group related data elements together. For example, you can create a data set for “Received Drug Supplies” containing data elements related to drug supplies received, and another data set for “Daily Dispensing” containing data elements related to daily dispensing counts and recipient information.
Data Element Groups and Group Sets:
Organize data elements into groups and group sets to make it easier to manage and analyze the data. You can create data element groups for each category of information (e.g., drug supplies, dispensing counts) and organize them into group sets for better organization and navigation within the platform.
By configuring the DHIS2 platform in this way, you can effectively track and manage drug usage and dispensing at your facility level. Additionally, since you have some knowledge of developing DHIS2 apps, you may consider developing custom apps or modules to enhance the functionality and user experience further.
I hope this guidance helps, and I wish you success in leveraging the DHIS2 platform to address your challenges effectively. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact me.
