Maps App –Advanced Course & Facility Checker App
Accurate facility location data and map usage is essential for effective planning, resource allocation, and service delivery in health systems. However, in many countries, the coordinates of health facilities in DHIS2 are often incomplete, outdated, or incorrect. And map making and use of geospatial data in DHIS2 is relatively limited. UNICEF, HISP South Africa, and UiO , have developed a level 2 self paced mapping course for DHIS2 focusing on data use, population mapping, health facility indicators, and connecting DHIS2 to ESRI and QGIS for more mapping options. The course will be released as part of the 2025 annual conference. UNICEF is partnering with HISP Vietnam to develop of a “Facility Checker” app compatible with DHIS2. The app empowers district level information officers to visualize and correct facility location data, leveraging satellite imagery and simplified user interfaces. It allows central level officers to easily check the data quality of the submitted locations. In 2023, an Advanced Mapping in person DHIS2 academy was held in Cape Town in 2023. It strengthened capacities in use of maps in DHIS2 and integration of other/outside sources of data, including population data, into country/district/facility maps. The academy was well received with over 10 countries participating and with very positive feedback. This new self-paced course builds on the experiences of the Advanced level Maps academy, with emphasis on training and capacity strengthening to the larger community, focus on map usage for decision making and, a facility checker application that supports district end users to quality check geospatial coordinates. Countries and organizations will learn about and benefit directly from the self-paced advanced course and the facility checker
