Kick starting climate & health in Togo

The Climate & Health project in Togo focuses on integrating climate and health data to improve disease monitoring and public health strategies. Collaborating with the Ministry of Health, the National Meteorological Agency, and various stakeholders, the initiative employs the DHIS2 platform to analyze climate-sensitive diseases by leveraging meteorological data such as rainfall and temperature. Key components of the project include the climate App, which facilitates real-time data integration, and the CHAP modeling tool, which is being piloted to evaluate the relationship between climate data and diseases like malaria. Current data collection initiatives are ongoing at the village level, alongside efforts to enhance stakeholder coordination. The project’s overarching goal is to fortify Togo’s health systems against climate-related health risks, setting a precedent for replication in other West African nations, particularly given the existing regional framework for collaboration among national meteorological services.
