Introducing the Route Manager app

Quietly released on the DHIS2 App Hub last fall and already downloaded hundreds of times, the new Route Manager app provides a visual interface to manage DHIS2 API Routes. An API-only feature first introduced in DHIS2 version 40, Routes allow custom DHIS2 apps to communicate securely with external services through the DHIS2 API, which handles authentication and authorization. Managing these routes, including through the new Route Manager app, is a sensitive system administration operation restricted to DHIS2 users with the Route metadata authority.

Some features of the route management app include:

  1. Creating, editing, and deleting routes configured in the DHIS2 system
  2. Specifying authentication schemes to be used when a route communicates with its target
  3. Defining the authorities required for users to access the route
  4. Configuring sharing settings for route metadata
  5. Testing routes with custom requests using a visual interface
  6. Enabling and disabling routes

You can find the Route Manager app on the App Hub now, available for DHIS2 versions 40 and 41.

We will be sharing more about this app and how to use API Routes to extend core DHIS2 functionality on the CoP and our regular monthly developer meetups.
