Integrating Nutrition and MCH Information Systems

In Indonesia, 13 health information systems (HIS) are used to collect data on Nutrition and Maternal and Child Health (MCH), causing challenges in monitoring and data quality. To address this, a unified dashboard was developed, leveraging DHIS2 for the Satu Data Kesehatan (One Health Data) platform. The integration process begins by identifying required Data Elements through stakeholder discussions. Developers of each HIS provide an Application Programming Interface (API) to extract necessary data, which is then mapped to corresponding Data Elements in DHIS2. Once the mapping is complete, data extraction is initiated based on stakeholder needs, with a schedule for regular updates. A key advantage of this approach is that it doesn’t require health facilities to change their existing data entry practices. Instead, the data entered into each system is automatically consolidated into a single DHIS2 dashboard, accessible to all stakeholders. This enhances data accessibility, facilitates monitoring, and supports evidence-based decision-making without disrupting workflows. By streamlining data from multiple systems into DHIS2, the initiative helps create a unified health information system in Indonesia, improving data quality and enabling better policy decisions, ultimately contributing to improved health outcomes.
