We are currently working on the digitalization of the delivery record in DHIS2.
A central component of this record is the partograph, which is routinely used in maternity wards to monitor labor and delivery.
I would like to ask if any countries or DHIS2 projects have already:
developed a Tracker program that includes the partograph (or parts of it),
used an existing package (WHO, HISP, others) that provides a “Labour & Delivery” module or a digital partograph,
or if there are any shared metadata resources (JSON, models, documentation) that could be adapted.
Our aim is to build a continuum of care ANC → Delivery → Postpartum → Newborn, with key indicators such as cesarean rate, maternal and neonatal mortality, and obstetric complications.
Many thanks in advance for sharing your experiences and resources.
This will greatly help us design a digital partograph adapted to our context.
Back in 2019 & 2020 we developed guidance on developing a DHIS2 Tracker for PMTCT, which spanned the whole continuum of ANC, delivery and postnatal care. (This was done as part of a MEASURE Evaluation project.) Although we didn’t cover partograms, we did go into quite a lot of technical detail on how to design the tracker programs themselves, and we also piloted the tracker and obtained feedback from users, so you might find some useful ideas there.
Make sure you use the ‘revised’ version of the guidance, which was shaped by feedback from the field. Links to the various resources can be found in this DHIS2 Community post:
Thank you very much for your message and for sharing the reference to the MEASURE Evaluation guidance.
I would like to let you know that I am already using this package. We have implemented it successfully on DHIS2 version 2.40, fully translated it into French, and adapted it to our national context.
The part that is still missing for us is the partograph. We are now exploring how best to design and integrate this component within the continuum of ANC → Delivery → Postnatal care.
If you know of any experience, metadata, or tools that specifically address the digitalization of the partograph, I would be very grateful if you could point me to them.
That’s great news - I’m really pleased that guidance is still relevant and useful.
I’m not aware of projects that have implemented a partograph in DHIS2, but this definitely the right forum to ask that question. A partograph is obviously a little different to the other tracker programs in this continuum, in that it’s an operational tool that must be completed in real-time, whereas the ANC, delivery and post-natal programs can be updated retrospectively (eg daily or even a few days later) - and equipment and training limitations mean that this retrospective option is often the one that’s implemented in the field.
Best of luck with the project, I’m keen to see how it progresses.
I wish you the best. A helpful, affectionate project for the health and wellbeing of families. In Uruguay we do not use DHIS2 yet, and that data is collected, and the Ministry of Health communicates the results, but it is not so complete as you describe it. Many parts are covered and collected by the Hospitals for Doctors and patients.
