Formalizing a DHIS2 SRS

Please find the attached Software Requirement Specification document that we have created for the purpose of certifying DHIS2 by the Ministry of IT in India.

The SRS is by no means exhaustive and does not cover all the modules in full detail. I’ve tried to cover most of the general requirements, be it functional or non-functional. The system requirements requires some more work, but is not extensive as it won’t be of much use to the IT dept here.

I request all of you to comment on the SRS and what should be added/subtracted to meet this urgent need. I hope others can expand on this work and complete the system requirements and fill the document with more detail from other modules. From my past experiences, I believe a technical writer can express the requirements with more subtle beauty than just the software. Hope someone can capture those aspects.

Great to see this, Saptarshi!

Just did a quick skim, and saw the following, which is now somewhat misleading:

“For GIS functionality, the user interface requires a SVG renderer. This can be browser native like in Firefox 3 or through a plug-in like Adobe SVG Viewer for Internet Explorer.”

That’s true for the nice SVG based GIS module developed by the VN team, but no longer for the MapFish-based module developed by Jan Henrik and Lars. They are visiting VN at the end of the month to consolidate GIS efforts, so I think this text could perhaps be removed or moved to a footnote.

Hi Saptarshi

That’s an impressive piece of work. What about putting a copy on google docs for people to make their inputs.

We can expand on this… build on for the other modules and add the new GIS functionality as it is deployed everywhere…

Lets get all the use-cases in one doc, instead of versions… This was urgent and so in this structure.

as the plan is for lars and jan henrik to go to india after vietnam and streamline there as well, we need to take the reality as expected in relative short while into consideration, or?

Or the document needs to versions, one rigth now for testing and another to be developed further during next few months
