Epi week in DHIS2

Hi all,

Is there any chance to add Epi week option in DHIS2 in near future?

Thanks,

Hi Raheel,

There are many different definitions of what an Epi Week actually is. Could you be more specific? Right now, weeks are implemented as ISO weeks, beginning on Monday and ending on Sunday.

Jason

Hi Raheel,

Part of the challenge here is that these EpiWeeks are not standardized. They thus become impossible to reliably calculate the weeks determinstically, which is usually needed with DHIS2 (the Nepali calendar being an exception). Ideally we would have a means to implement whatever type of intervals which are needed, but at the moment, all period types in DHIS2 are “hardwired”, so adding a new type (e.g.EpiWeeks) could be done, but in this case, it may not be so simple. For instance, look carefully here (

http://www.cmmcp.org/2008EPI.htm) and here ( http://www.cmmcp.org/2009EPI.htm). Note that one week is simply missing (Dec 28th 2008-Jan 3 2009) but there are no clear rules about how to number this week. The ISO week system handles this and is thus fully deterministic. So, not to say it could not be done, but without a fully standardized and rigorous definition of what an EpiWeek actually is, I think and potential implementation could be problematic.

Jason
