Downloaded map doesn't show all layers and use of term Quintiles

Hi DHIS team,

Not sure if this is deliberate or not, but not all layers (facility layer and google background) are shown when one downloads a map (v2.11). Would it be possible for these layers to appear (or not) in the download based on whether that layer is toggled on or off? All other layers seem to work this way. Any chance this can be unified? Perhaps the google image is too big, but a lot of users want to create facility maps...

I was also wondering if the automatic legend method currently termed 'Quintiles' would be more user friendly if termed 'Equal numbers'? Many are confused by this term.

Thanks
Dan

The facility layer is different from the other layers as it displays images by reference, i.e. the images are not SVG shapes. We know a lot of users want to create facility maps, and it might be possible to include them in the download somehow, but so far we have not prioritized it as there is a print screen button on most keyboards…

“Quantiles” is the “correct” term as far as I know, but I agree that it might be confusing. Let’s change it to “Equal numbers”.

Jan,

Thanks for the feedback. Guessed that there would be a good reason

for the facility layer not showing. I know that in theory it should
be easy to perform a screen capture, but unfortunately I think this
might be hard to ensure people can make a screen capture and
remember to do so just for this use case. I am no programmer, but if
there is a way to make this happen I think it would help a lot of
users who otherwise will think the system is broken and perhaps not
engage with it as a result.

Would it also be possible to add in a pdf download option for maps

as it can be higher definition (like the data visualiser downloads)?

'Equal numbers' would help a lot - thanks....

Cheers

Hi Dan,

yes we could easily use SVG for icons and then embed them in the download. Only problem is that IE8, which we still officially support, uses viewport to render maps and does not support SVG out of the box. Eventually we will scrap support for IE8 but not immediately…

I think the usual terminology for this would be “Equal counts”.

Quintiles is not the correct word though, except when the population would be divided into 5 parts.

Agree with Jason - “Equal counts” sounds best.

Quintiles are just one specific type of quantiles:

We never used “quintiles”, we used “quantiles” like mapfish does. Something more understandable is probably better, so I’ll let the English tongues decide. Seems like there is a consensus on “equal counts” then.

Hi all,

Yes I agree, “Equal counts” would be the standard term, if you want to avoid “Quantiles” that is.

I would also advocate for making Equal Counts / Quantiles the default classification method for thematic layers, since in most cases it results in better classification than Equal Intervals.
