Highlights:
- DHIS2 Impact: Strengthening Pharmacy Stock Management in Humanitarian Settings: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) developed a DHIS2-based Pharmacy Stock Management system, piloted in Somalia and now used in 12 countries, which has increased efficiency and reduced costs by digitizing and standardizing stock tracking, reducing ordering time from hours to under 30 minutes.
- Cambodia Transitions National HMIS to DHIS2: Cambodia’s Ministry of Health has begun transitioning its national Health Management Information System (HMIS) to DHIS2, aiming for a more integrated and sustainable digital health system with support from WHO, Clinton Health Access Initiative, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Gavi, and HISP Vietnam. This makes Cambodia one of over 75 countries to adopt DHIS2 for national health data management.
- New HISP Projects and Partnerships: Several new DHIS2 projects and collaborations are supported by the HISP network, including advancing climate-resilient health systems in Lao PDR, a partnership between Madagascar and HISP UiO for digital One Health and laboratory information systems, and an agreement between HISP UiO and Spix Foundation to strengthen digital education tools in LMICs.
- DHIS2 for Education: Empowering Data-Driven Education Management:
- Nigeria: Edo State has partnered with Data Science Nigeria to implement a DHIS2-based education management information system in 51 schools for real-time tracking of attendance and performance. Nigeria’s Digital DHIS2-EMIS Project in 12 states is transforming education data collection and use, led by HISP Nigeria, the University of Oslo, and UNICEF.
- Uganda: The Ministry of Education and Sports partnered with HISP Uganda and Save the Children to implement a data use innovations research project to strengthen education data systems and empower subnational managers.
- Togo: The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, supported by HISP West and Central Africa, is leveraging DHIS2 to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making in schools and districts.
- Webinar Recording: Enhancing Immunization Data Accuracy in Laos: HISP Vietnam and the Laos Ministry of Health shared lessons from the first year of Laos using DHIS2 as an electronic immunization registry (EIR) in a webinar hosted by AeHIN. The presentation covered local adaptation of the DHIS2 EIR Health Data Toolkit, data use, achievements, challenges, and FHIR integration.
- ICTWorks Article by HISP UiO on Sustainable Information Systems: ICTWorks published an article by HISP UiO advocating for continued support for locally-owned routine data systems and Digital Public Goods as a sustainable path forward amidst global health funding challenges.
- DHIS2 News & HISP Activity Roundup: Highlights from the global HISP network include Mike Frost of HISP UiO participating in a WHA side event on “Digital health transformation in the global NCD response”, eLMIS training in Comoros by HISP Rwanda and HISP UiO for stock management, and an Arabic-Language DHIS2 Tracker Configuration Academy in Jordan by HISP Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and HISP UiO, welcoming 30 participants from various countries and organizations.
- Call for Papers for Special DHIS2-Themed Issue of SSM-Health Systems: HISP UiO invites contributions to a special issue of the SSM-Health Systems journal focusing on interdisciplinary dialogue about innovation and DHIS2-enabled health systems, particularly from low- and middle-income countries.
- Join the DHIS2 Annual Conference Online: The DHIS2 Annual Conference (June 10-13, 2025, Oslo, Norway) offers free online participation via Zoom for those unable to attend in person due to funding challenges or budget constraints.
- Latest DHIS2 Software Versions: DHIS2 v42 and Android v3.2: New versions of DHIS2 core and mobile software (DHIS2 v42 and Android Capture v3.2) were released in May. Resources are available for a Feature Spotlight webinar, and details on DHIS2 v42 and Android Capture v3.2 features. New resources also support upgrades to v42, addressing changes like Tracker Capture app deprecation, retirement of legacy Tracker API endpoints, rule engine harmonization, and custom forms support.
- DHIS2 Climate App Updates: Recent updates include new datasets (vegetation, land cover, elevation) for nuanced analysis of environmental effects on health impacts, and options for importing weekly and monthly data, along with a simplified setup page.
- DHIS2 Software Updates & Patch Releases: Information on the latest patch releases and updates, such as DHIS2 version 41.4, is available for staying up to date.
- DHIS2 Server Administration Academy in Sri Lanka: The University of Oslo, HISP Sri Lanka, and HISP Asia invite participants to a DHIS2 Academy on Server Administration from August 18-22, 2025, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, focusing on installing and maintaining DHIS2 software.
- Académie DHIS2 sur les Fondamentaux de la Configuration Android en Côte d’Ivoire: HISP Côte d’Ivoire and the University of Oslo announce a DHIS2 Academy on Android Configuration Fundamentals from July 28 - August 1, 2025, in Yamoussoukro, focusing on best practices for DHIS2 Android Capture app data collection.
- CoP Monthly - June Edition: This monthly roundup from the DHIS2 Community of Practice features top topics from May, including posts on app transition and system upgrades, community innovations for the Annual Conference, helpful user recognition, upcoming events, and a DHIS2 Challenge.
- Explore DHIS2 Community Innovations at the Annual Conference: Weekly roundups of accepted abstracts from community members are being presented leading up to the DHIS2 Annual Conference, showcasing exciting DHIS2 projects.
- HISP Developers Meet with DHIS2 Extensibility Team in Tanzania: The DHIS2 Extensibility team met with HISP developers from four countries in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to discuss work, developer tools, extensibility features, and future collaborations.
- Developer Meetup on June 19: New Org Unit Sync Reference Implementation: The next Developer Meetup on June 19, 2025, will discuss a new organization unit sync reference implementation by the DHIS2 Extensibility team, designed to simplify syncing org unit metadata between systems, and will also highlight DHIS2 v42 developer features like the new global shell.
