DHIS2 for U.S. Community/Public Health Management
Introduction: The Covid Pandemic has left a wakeup call with Informatics practice at Public and community level. Organizations are collaborating with multiple community programs while lacking a common platform that integrates technology to support them with services and information for care delivery and decision making. The objective of this study was to understand the opportunity and challenges of deploying DHIS2 to a consortium of Community Health organization and seal operations for information sharing and decision making. Methods: DHIS2 Training was provided to two groups of students who are required to complete a project in the terminal level of their course. In the form of students’ internships, the students were facilitated by the faculty to answer application challenges and prepare analytics that will help organizations answer specific programmatic challenges. An external consultant was available on a weekly basis to check in with development and configuration. Prototypes are being shared for additional workflow enhancements and dashboard reporting. A post implementation survey has been administered to measure Qualitative and quantitate data on the perceived potential of sustaining DHIS use in the Public Health Practice. Analysis: Data has been collected to the organizations to measure DHIS2 Workflows and reporting for their daily use. Data is currently still being analyzed. Preliminary analysis show that the major appreciation is lying with the fact that DHIS2 is free compared to the proprietary systems they use. The Open Source Capability is an important factor considering their current vendor relation and dependency. Potential challenges include lack of training and capacity building to be given to the organizations to be able to sustain the system.
