DHIS2 Data model diagram

Hi all,

I’m interested in knowing the core E-R diagram of DHIS2 data model. I’ve found in the user manual the next pictures http://dhis2.org/doc/snapshot/en/user/html/apes04.html. Anyway, is there anything more complete than that?

Thank you
Jose

Hi Jose,

I have made a copy of the schema available in a few different formats here.

Hi Jason,

Can you suggest a viewer to look at the .dia files? I couldn’t find anything that matches on google.

For the .neato files users can download the open source program graphviz at : http://www.graphviz.org/Download_windows.php

Thanks.
I am making some illustrations for user training, including a limited data model, attached. I include features that are hopefully more recognizable for users than UML, ER or similar models.

Such models have to be limited in size in order to constitute a reasonable chunk of information to be explained and grasped.

Do anyone have experience with using such models in user training? Those to be trained in Malawi are HMIS officers, who are supposed to be super-users for their district offices.

As a follow-up, these diagrams have been produced by a script for Postgres called Autodoc and is available here.

Hi Jens,

As a quick follow up, I would differentiate, for the respective audiences of your information products, the conceptual, logical and physical models (all ERDs with different level of details) versus explanation of key concepts (existing in the model) but represented and exposed to the users in the system graphical user interface (GUI).

You will find most systems have different documentations:

  • user manuals (mostly task-oriented guide to different functionality across the system)

  • other technical documentation for administrators covering requirements, installation, troubleshooting,…

  • on-line help/FAQs (usually derived from the 2 other types above)

Hope this helps.

Best,
/Phil
