DHIS2API to Develop Tanzania Immunisation Registry
One of the immediate digital health priorities within the Immunization Vaccine Development program at the Tanzania Ministry of Health is to enhance its Electronic Immunization System by developing an immunization product that aligns with the integrated immunization data management platform requirements, including the Tanzania Immunization Registry system. The product aims to facilitate the monitoring of individual immunization service delivery and inventory at the facility level, improving the performance of the program’s coverage and efficiency. The product intends to provide access to patient and aggregate-level service delivery data, enabling improvements in patient care, detection of vaccination trends, resource allocation, program operations, and quality enhancement efforts The MoH Tanzania in collaboration with partners engaged HISP Tanzania to come up with the design to fit the workflow regarding TImR at facility level. HISP Tanzania experts opted to develop the android mobile application on top of open source DHIS2 platform by leveraging the existing of full fledged API that helps interacting with DHIS2 resources in an unique way that makes more simplicity in attending to client at the facilities for immunization of various vaccines The designed and implemented TimR meant to enhance and control of the wastage rate of the commodities such that each client before attending the vaccination session, planning should be done specifying of what commodities to be used based on different criteria such vaccine batch number expiration date, high number of VVM. DHIS2 used the existing tracker to come up with functionality that allow the HCW to prepare the stock of vaccine to use based on the scheduled appointments and also provide automatic calculation of the issues doses based on the number vaccinated children
