DHIS2 Android Settings Web App version 2.3.0 is released

We are pleased to inform you that the version (2.3.0) of the Android Settings web application has been released.

The web app features are intended to support admins in various functions of a DHIS2 Android Capture app implementation. These include configuring synchronization parameters for the DHIS2 Android Capture app, encrypting the local database of the Android devices, customizing the appearance of programs, data sets, and home screen, and adding TEI, program, and dataset analytics items, among other features.

This version has mainly added the following features:

  • If the Android Settings Web App is installed in (and from) a 40.0.0 DHIS2 server, any users with the “M_androidsettingsapp” authority assigned will be able to use this app, changing any parameter of its configuration (this was not possible in previous versions where only users with the ALL authority were able to use this app). Please, keep in mind that this feature is only available from 40.X.X DHIS2 versions. This was one of the most important requests from the DHIS2 android community and we hope this feature will improve the use of Android in the implementations.

  • From the 40.X.X DHIS2 version, the latest version of the Android Capture app (2.8) uses the new tracker importer and exporter as the default mechanism to sync TEIs and Events from/to the server. Users can use the Android Settings Webapp to switch back to the old tracker importer/exporter if needed.

  • The latest version of the Android Capture app (2.8) supports the file value type. It is possible now to specify a limit in the maximum file size (in KB) when uploading and downloading files from/to the server.

This version also contains several improvements in the UI. You have more info about the new features and fixes in the following link.

This web app is compatible with 40, 2.39, 2.38, and 2.37, although several of the new features are only available from the 40 version. We recommend to always use the latest patch versions.

If you plan to use this web app, the following considerations should be taken:

  • The use of this app will overwrite the local settings of all Android devices using the DHIS2 Android Capture app for a given DHIS2 instance.
  • If you select the encryption checkbox, it will affect the local database of all Android devices synchronizing with the server for a given DHIS2 instance.
  • This version is compatible with the previous version 2.2.X, which means that the settings stored from those versions will apply.
