Could you please help me understand the Data Export functionality of DHIS better.
I am currently using DHIS version 2.23.
In the Import-Export module, we have the Data Export functionality where we select Org. Units, data sets and dates for which we need to export data.
The dates - 'Start date’ and 'End date’ - are these the dates between which we have entered data on the instance? Or have they got to do with when the data sets or org. units were created?
I brought this up because I was unable to export data that I entered today i.e. 17-03-2016 (after selecting the appropriate org. unit and data set that contains data) and setting the start date and end date to 16-03-2016 and 18-03-2016 respectively.
I also tried exporting data after running the analytics. But, either way, no data values are exported and the JSON file exported is empty. Any thoughts on this?

This refers the date of the data itself. So, if you entered data on “March 22nd 2016” but wanted data for January, you would select “Jan 1-Jan 31st”. The date which the data was entered is not relevant for this functionality.

The export date selector will only extract data for export where the WHOLE PERIOD falls within the selected range. So let us say you have captured monthly data for jan-16 and Feb-16, weekly data for 2016 week 1-9 (last week partially in Feb and partially in March), and you have yearly population estimates for 2016.
If you select export from 2016-01-01 to 2016-01-15, it will only export the first week’s data (no monthly, no yearly)
if you select export from 2016-01-01 to 2016-02-29, will export 2 months of monthly data + 8 weeks of weekly data (not the last week, no yearly)
the only way to ensure ALL your data is exported would be to select export for 2016-01-01 to 2016-12-31
