Developing a Climate Data Repository in Mozambique
The National Institute of Meteorology (MET) in Mozambique is responsible for monitoring and disseminating national climate data. Within the context of the climate and health project, MET identified a critical gap: inefficient data sharing between sectors. The current reliance on manual procedures, such as exchanging Excel files, hinders timely and effective data dissemination compared to more advanced mechanisms. This deficiency also extended to the dissemination of climate information to the general public and external partners. The lack of a centralized, easily accessible platform hindered the efficient sharing of specific data requests, limiting the impact of available information. To address these constraints, a climate data repository was developed for the National Institute of Meteorology (MET). This repository aims to facilitate easy internal access and external sharing of climate data. By automating information consumption and providing a centralized platform, the repository enhances data accessibility for MET staff, partners, and the general public. Furthermore, it plays a crucial role in the climate and health project by serving as the primary source of local climate data for integration into forecast models on the CHAP platform.
