Can someone help me with a guide on how to use the dhis2 d2:validatePattern function i am currently using 2.26 war file. Any help will be greatly welcomed.

The d2:validatePattern function is using RegEx expressions as parameter.
For a general introduction/tutorial to regex, see for instance http://www.vogella.com/tutorials/JavaRegularExpressions/article.html
For a technical overview, see https://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/util/regex/Pattern.html
You can use e.g. https://regex101.com to test your regex string. You put the regex expression into the field on top, the text string you are testing below it, and on the right side you see the result.
