I have personally found it very irritating of Launchpad that bugs could not be closed and Fix Released / Fix Committed is the status that is set on most of the bugs in our project.
Based on some recent discussions: https://dev.launchpad.net/LEP/CloseBugsLeaveDiscussionsOpen, you will see that now there is an “Opinion” under the status for the bugs. In my opinion the name sounds stupid, but it basically allows the developer or bug manager to close the bug, but still allow discussion on the bug
This means the bugs that are old and those that have been fixed, committed, released and verified can be closed now. I suggest to the developers and bug reporters to review all the bugs that are assigned to them or created by them, to see if those bugs are fixed. Getting them closed, does help people who come new and want to fix some bugs and see how many are really open.
