From my observations of users, it seems quite clear that the current red and white “life buoy” icon is to small to be recognized, and a lot of people are also unfamiliar with the concept of life buoys.

This was also discussed at the workshop we had in Blantyre recently,
and we came to the same conclusion. Same suggestions from Nigeria and
Zambia (which is landlocked).
