Project Background and Vision

DHIS2 (District Health Information Software 2) is an internationally leading open-source health information system platform. It is widely used in public health surveillance, disease prevention and control, health service management, scientific research, and evidence-based decision support. A mature and active open-source ecosystem has been established in numerous countries and regions worldwide.

Since introducing DHIS2 around 2010, we have conducted over a decade of open-source localization and industry-specific implementation work tailored to China’s healthcare system context, operational models, and digitalization landscape. Key initiatives include:

  • :white_check_mark: Comprehensive system localization (user interface, metadata, configuration items, and business terminology)
  • :white_check_mark: Systematic localization of official technical documentation, training materials, and practice guides
  • :white_check_mark: Application piloting and validation tailored to China’s healthcare operational contexts
  • :white_check_mark: Training, exchange, and promotion initiatives for healthcare IT practitioners
  • :white_check_mark: Secondary development and adaptation aligned with domestic policies, standards, and practical workflows

Building upon this foundation, in collaboration with the Sichuan Health Informatics Society, we formally launched the localized open-source project CDHIS2 (China DHIS2), aiming to:

Continuously gather practitioners, technicians, and researchers in China’s healthcare informatics field,
Promote standardized application, collaborative innovation, and open-source co-development of DHIS2 across Sichuan and China.

Project Positioning

This project is a China-localized open-source enhancement project based on DHIS2 Core, focusing on and serving the following areas:

  • :hospital: Construction of medical consortiums, public health, primary healthcare, and regional health information platforms
  • :hospital: Hospital big data platforms, project-based event and case tracking management, specialized disease databases

  • Ongoing maintenance of Chinese interfaces and industry terminology systems
  • Metadata model examples tailored for Chinese operations (indicators, datasets, organizational structures)
  • Configuration templates and reference implementations adapted for domestic application scenarios

  • Public data management and comprehensive analysis for medical consortiums
  • Business support for public health and disease prevention/control
  • Data aggregation, governance, and application for regional health information platforms
  • Support for research data management, statistical analysis, and method validation

  • Ongoing localization and updates of official documentation
  • Compilation of local practice guides, case studies, and best practices
  • Training courses, instructional cases, and technical sharing

DHIS2（District Health Information Software 2） 是一个国际主流的开源卫生健康信息系统平台，广泛应用于公共卫生监测、疾病防控、卫生服务管理、科研与循证决策支持等领域，在全球多个国家和地区形成了成熟而活跃的开源生态。

自 2010 年前后引入 DHIS2 以来，我们围绕中国医疗卫生体系的制度环境、业务模式和信息化现状，持续开展了 十余年的开源本地化与行业实践工作，主要包括：
