Categorised Totals

Dear All,

I have a data collection form with categorised totals. The form can be
viewed from this link: http://ict.co.zw/dhis2/CategorisedTotal.pdf

What is the optimal way of including these totals in the data Entry
Form. I could create an indicator per each total column but this can
result in 4 indicators per data element to satisfy each of the four
columns. If I have more data elements, then Indicators for the Total
columns will always be 4 times more.

I there a better way of doing this?

Regards,

Moses

Hi Busoye,
How many indicators do I need in the sample form I posted? I could use
indicators but then, I would need 4 indicators per data element. My
question is, is there a better way of doing this or a better way of
structuring my indicators? If I go with my initial approach, then I
would need 56 Indicators for my 14 data elements.

There should be a better way of doing this.

Hi Moses,
I have worked on a similar use case. If you want to include the totals in the Data Entry form, the "Totals" columns will have to be calculated data elements. These are essentially indicators the only difference is that you don't need a denominator. To save you the hassle of having to include a "1" in your indicator denominator definition, you can define an indicator type e.g. "Number" and enter "1" in the Factor field. You are obviously aware that you will need to create this with a custom form. You can retain a greyed-out formatting for non-applicable fields.

You will need to think about how you bring in these totals in your pivot tables but that is an issue you can address down the line. If you need any more input, will be happy to help.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Busoye

Hi Moses,
The tipping factor here is that you want the Totals in the Data Entry form. As far as I can see, there is no other way to get these without using indicators. In your case you don't have a huge number of data elements so it should be fairly easy to set up. You will need 52 indicators because a couple of indicators are applicable to either male of female. Can't think of a better way for now.

Best wishes
