Biometrics in tracker

Hi Stephane,

We have been looking into what it will take to include biometrics into
Tracker, we are hoping to include new data element types and tracked entity
attributes that can be used to store biometric relevant data in the first
half of 2018 (still working on prioritizing the roadmap for 2.29 and 2.30).
Let us know if you have a specific project / timeline where this is needed.

On the implementation and partnering side, we are attempting a biometrics
link in a research project in Bangladesh, and should have more information
to share in a few months. So my general response is, we think that
biometrics would be a very useful addition to Tracker, and are actively
exploring ways to make this happen.

Cheers,

Mike

Thank you for the response Mike
We in Haiti have roll out DHIS2 nationwide and we just upgraded our system
to 2.26. We are working with the National TB program to roll out the
tracker for TB patients, we started working on the tracker and expect to
pilot the it in January. The reason why we are so interesting in the
biometrics is because we do not have a good means to produce a unique
number to identify patients and we do suffer from patient shopping.
I am open to suggestions

Hi Stephane,

This is a shared problem in many of the countries where we work. We have
handled it so far by registering multiple attributes for the person (e.g.
First Name, Last Name, Father's First Name, Mother's First Name, Village,
DOB, etc.), and then using a combination of these attributes to confirm
identity.

There will be improvements to the Search in 2.29 and 2.30 that will help us
as well, and the possibility of adding photos for the TEI. Meanwhile, we
are investigating the biometrics angle.

I realize that the first solution is not always ideal, and the upcoming
feature development doesn't match your timeline. Other projects have
developed their own approach for issuing the patient a unique number
(sometimes on a physical card) that can be used in place of national ID
number.

I have added Markus Bekken to this reply, as he may have other suggestions.

Regards,

Mike

Hi Mike
Thank you for the response.
We do use certain attributes to identify the patient (full name, sex, DOB,
place of birth and residence), If the tracker can support photos that will
be a nice improvement.
Until we find a better method we will use the de-duplication using the
above attributes.

Are there any developments, in integration of photo or Fingerprint attribute?

Thanks

@mike, do you want to share any recent developments around this?

Hi,

regarding photos, we are supporting photos as tracked entity attributes since 2.30. You can try it out by creating a new attribute with the value type “image”, but I am unsure how well this new attribute in supported in the apps yet.

As @mike will probably also tell you, there are some work going on with biometric integration with DHIS2, but this is currently at the stage where biometric application providers are figuring out the specifics to support implementation with DHIS2. The actual integration work with DHIS2 will start after this, but there is currently no ETA decided yet.

A post was split to a new topic: High server load from background searches in tracker registration

Hi Stian…

Just to add to the need of biometric technology integration on Tracker , here in South Africa the demand for such projects is starting to escalate where the clients are not willing to compromise with this being a requirement.

I am hoping soon we will have the feature available as it disadvantages the dhis platform and seeking customised integration solutions from vendors might be cumbersome from a development point of view.

Cheers

Hello All,
We are looking to use fingerprint scanners with DHIS2 tracker.
Any updates on the integration of this feature into tracker?

Hi @lusandan and @ifeanyiokoye,

I believe @mike or @Markus is the best people to give an update on this issue.

Thank you @Stian.

@mike and @Markus, over to you.

Looking forward to your input on this.

Hello every one.

I am following the tread and am waiting to get any update from @mike or anyone else.

I am working on a project in Afghanistan where I want to use biometric data in DHIS2 for tracking and patient identity purposes. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello @mike , is there any update on biometrics in dhis2? Thanks

Hello Amina.

I am also waiting to the update about biometrics in Tracker.

Hello @mike and @Markus, please could you kindly respond to this thread?
Thank you.

Hi @Stian

Thanks for this information. We are actually looking to implement a tracker program with photos included (using the “Image” value type as mentioned), but were not able to find any information as to how to download/export the images collected? We would need to do some external analysis/comparison of images collected over time.

Could you provide some guidance for this or point me to the relevant documentation by any chance? It would be really appreciated!

Thanks!

I know its been over a year since this thread was active, but I’m wondering if we could still get a response?

Thank you!
