Attribute from confidential to non-confidential erases the attribute's content

We had set the first name and last name in our tracker attributes as confidential.
They were not showing in the tracker capture report; so we removed the confidential tag and the fields now show, however all of them are empty.
Did anyone face this before?
Are they recoverable?

Hi Bernard,

We also ever faced the same, unfortunately we had to re-enter/edit all the records because there was no way of restoring all the names and other confidential identifiers.

Am thinking its the way the functionality is supported, we need to get more clarification from the developers.

Hi @SDKAAA and @prosper - This is nice of you to bring this to our attentio. Our team from @dhis2-tracker team will have a look as we hear from other members on their experience with this.

Best,
James.

Hi there

When you set up the encryption you have a key. If you are going to change from confidential to open, I guess you should use the key to first de-crypt those attributes and take them out (export them) as you have noticed the default behaviour will be to delete these when changing the setting. If you have a backup perhaps you can decrypt the attributes first there? I think a dev might need to assist if this process will work.
