Accessing MODIS Gross Primary Production (GPP)

Hi @karimbahgat and @Bjorn_Sandvik We are interested in using MODIS Gross Primary Production (GPP), which is a good proxy for food security while modelling and risk mapping malnutrition. I was wondering if this could be included in the climate app or tools so that we can also explore its use for this purpose?

I would recommend to use DHIS2 Climate Tools for the initial exploration. We need to know which Gross Primary Production (GPP) dataset you would like to use. After a quick search I found 3 datasets that seems to be up-to-date:

  1. MODIS/Terra Gross Primary Productivity 8-Day L4 Global 500m SIN Grid V061
  2. MODIS/Aqua Gross Primary Productivity 8-Day L4 Global 500m SIN Grid V061
  3. Gross Primary Production 2023-present (raster 300 m), global, 10-daily – version 1

When you have decided on the dataset to explore, we can figure out how to download it for the region of interest.

Second, we need more details on how you want to process the data. If you have access to an existing Python script it will be much easier to get started.

Thanks, this was helpful. I have created an account and now trying to extract the netCDF data from their portal using this interface for this year, and would like to generate zonal statistics the extracted area for each of the districts :crossed_fingers:

When you have downloaded the NetCDF to can follow this climate tools guide to aggregate the data for each of your districts (zonal statistics).
