Update: 43-Error in HTTP operation

Copying the mailing list. Since you can access the web, wap settings are not the problem. Permissions seem more likely.

Dear Long,

I am able to browse to yahoo and to other sites via the Internet

browser of the phone.

When i start dhismobile, and after i enter the access codes, i see the
G and E icons at the top then being placed in a box.

Interestingly, the error in my site is 53 while the error in your site is 42.

I also think it is a problem with the local gprs setting.

Knut, how would i know if i am being given wap or internet?

Hi Alvin,
Since we tested your sever with my Nokia 2330 and it worked, the problem should not come from the server. It must come from the C1-01 or the network. So let’s try the following steps:

Open other application that also use GPRS in your phone (web browser or application
downloader) and see if they can work.If they cannot work, contact your service provider to re-setup GPRS.If they can work, open DHISMobile application, while you login, look at the top of the screen and find a small [E] or [G] icon. In case there is no icon, the application may not allowed to use GPRS.To give the permission, go to the application (do not open it) then click options then App.access, then set both Network Access and Connectivity to “Ask first time only” (or “Always allowed” if possible).Give it a try and let me know the result.

I have received the GPRS settings from my

Now I am getting a 42-Error in HTTP operation…

I would recommend having the Nokia emulator available as plan B.

Sorry, this did not make it on the list.

Hi Ola,

Thanks for documenting this Jason.
I think this documentation should be merged with Jo's manual for
dhis-mobile, which is very good by the way. It is part of the big user
manual.

I am aware of the mobile user manual of course, and much of our own
user manual in Zambia has been derived from it. However, the person
who developed the manual chose not to use DocBook, against my advice.
So, yes, we will need to merge this back at some point in time. Much
of it is very specific to Zambia, but this part may be of use.

Jason,
I am right now testing mobile data entry for Kenya (as part of a training
session the coming week), and just experienced some delay in receiving the
values on the server (looking at data entry form in the browser). It also
seems the browser cache is playing with me.
When I tested with the emulator on a good Internet connection the data came
in almost immediately, but now using the mobile device it seems a lot slower
for some reason.

Not sure. I have not experienced this, but I have heard rumours from
the field that the data has been transmitted (Marked as completed) but
it never shows up in the system. I have not been able to reproduce it.

Also, I would use the data browser in organisation unit mode to
confirm the data is there, unless you just want to demonstrate that
data can be entered either through the mobile or browser. I have not
experienced this issue.

Of course when demoing this I would like the values to pop up in the
browser's data entry form right away.

Use an emulator on localhost if you want this to happen.

Any experiences with this?

We are still evaluating the pilot here, but in general all of the
problems come back to the phone configuration settings. Once the
phones have been setup, the data comes in immediately as the users
report it.

Regards,
Jason

Hi Alvin,
This might help.

Taking this off the list as it is rather large with the screen shots.

Here is part of our manual used for the configuration procedure of
Nokia phones in Zambia. You will need to have the APN settings for
your mobile operator which I would assume would be different than
Zambia. The trick is to be sure you have the correct type (proxy)
connection configured on a Nokia phone (if that is what you are
using). The operator defined settings did not work for us here, but
they may for you.

I doubt an emulator will help to test the GPRS settings, as the
emulator will use your internet connection. However, it is good to
test on the emulator just to be sure the server is working as it
should.

Regards,

Jason
