Any idea how to implement a unique identifier for a person or patient?

I think OpenMRS and other open source patient systems will have a grip on this.

I was hoping it would be like the PersonIdentifier (can be multiple,
but one will be preferred) and an internal personid (BIG INT). I had
sent as part of the UML diagram, so that it can be comparable and
exchanged with OpenMRS

Yes there are especially OpenMRS. But I am not sure to what extent we will be interested on individuals. We are interested on the aggregate figures and on the follow up of services or encounters.

Yes I have seen it, but how are we going to implement it? What you sent us is PersonIdentifier(String identifier, OrganisationUnit orgUnit), may be you can tell us more on how to generate the identifier for example.

I believe CHIS being a name-based system is an integral part of the requirements. Thus, we need to be interested on the individual’s information. But it would depend on how much is name-based system a requirement for CHIS for everyone involved.

Suppose the identifier at Mumbai (orgunitid: 1) is MUM001, while the same person has received services from another facility Delhi (orgunit; 2) is DEL001.

for the Person, my method would be like the following:

Person saptarshi = new Person();

PersonIdentifier idAtMumbai = new PersonIdentifier(“MUM001”,1);

PersonIdentifier idAtDelhi = new PersonIdentifier(“DEL001”,2);

idAtMumbai.setPreferred(true);

saptarshi.setPersonIdentifier(idAtMumbai);

saptarshi.setPersonIdentifier(idAtDelhi);

But the internal id (personid) for the person is something specific to the installation of CHIS at that facility, since personid column is auto-increment. Hope this example helps with the PersonIdentifier.

Yes, may be if we look back to the use cases we identified

  1. case based auditing and surveillance
  2. house-to-house service delivery
    In the first case I would say there is nothing, or very low, interest in tracking/identifying individuals. What is required it to regsiter incidences occured and then generate aggregate figures. In the house-to-house case, yes there is tracking but mostly through the house - we first identify a house and then encounters (both new and history) so that we can plan subsequent services. I feel that the uniquness/identification we need is internal and was thinking of using UUIDs.

How are the OpenMRS identifiers generated - are they using some kind of algorithm?
