Dear iHRIS Community,

I would like to invite you to participate in the above stated OpenHIE Provider Registry Community conference call. The Open Health Information Exchange (OpenHIE) is a global, open-source collaboration initiative emerging to assist in the strengthening of national health information exchanges for the underserved. This initiative emerged from the Health Informatics Public Private Partnership (HIPPP) initiative funded by PEPFAR in an effort to support the development of the Rwanda Health Enterprise Architecture (RHEA) Project, a shared electronic medical record created for expectant mothers visiting antenatal clinics in the Rwamagana district. As the benefits of the RHEA implementation became apparent, interest gathered from other countries looking to grow their own health information technologies. See the below article for more information:

As part of this project, we will organize and lead a community around development and deployment of provider registries, developed using open-source technologies to support a comprehensive database of all providers of health care services within a country. The Provider Registry was developed as part of the RHEA project, and in tandem with other project Registries, in an effort to keep eHealth systems connected within a country. As efforts increase to move technologies developed during the RHEA project from Rwanda and towards serving multiple countries, we welcome the participation of the broader global community to bring together community processes, broad reaching experience, and a series of re-usable technologies to give countries a framework in which they can start to address their own health information needs and make an impact in their own local community.

The first Provider Registry Community Call will occur this Wednesday, February 20th at 10:00am EST. Please join the below google group if you would like to participate in the call and the agenda and conference bridge details will be forwarded to you separately. If you are unable to join the first call, we will continue to hold calls every other Wednesday at 10:00am EST.
