I am very new to DHIS2, just finished my training a couple of weeks ago, and am starting to develop the database for our use.
I created all of the Org Units, categories, data elements and data sets and assigned them to the appropriate org unit. I then went into data entry, found the Org Units and data sets and entered in a few bits of data as a test.
Then I went to the Pivot table and selected the data elements, period, and org unit with the data and hit update…
I got a message that there were no values found and I cannot figure out what is happening. I was recently told that it might be something to do with “saving” the unit levels. I went to the Unit Levels and renamed them and saved it but still nothing.
Is there something more to saving unit levels that I am missing?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Best,
Joshua

Thanks for the suggestion… I just did that, I think… At least I got a message that Analytics Tables updated. But still no values when I ran the Pivot table.

Hi Joshua,
did you generate the analytics tables after entering data?
Analytics tables can be run from apps > reports > analytics and scheduled to run periodically from data admin > scheduling.

After you did the data entry, you go to Apps=>Report=>Analytics and Data mart and select like this image then click Start export button. After this running successful, you can see the data value in Pivot table, GIS, Data visualizer, …

Dear Joshua,
After having performed Analytics, do you choose good organizational units, period and data elements (indicators) for which the data were entered?

Hi Simon,
There is not much really in terms of documenting what each and every table does, but you can build the db schema (a bit out of data) from the documentation branch.
Simply execute
mvn -f db-pom.xml clean package
This will produce an HTML file which links all of the tables and relationships together. Note, that not all foreign keys which are in place in the logic of DHIS2 are present in the database.
If you can give more specifics about what you need, then we might be able to point you in the right direction.
I want to understand the categories/category options so that I can do low level adjustments for changes in the options

Yeah, this is a particularly tricky part of the model to work with directly through the database. It is very easy to mess things up here. Using the WebAPI would be a much better option if at all possible.
At any rate, that part of the documentation should be fairly up to date, but unwinding everything in SQL can be a task, depending on what you need to do.

Of particular interest is the relationships between dataelementcategory, dataelementcategoryoption, categorycombo, categoryoptioncombo, categories_categoryoptions, categorycombos_categories and categoryoptioncombos_categoryoptions.
