GPS capture and sync with local health facility registry

Dear all,

I would like to ask two questions:

1. if the mobile device is capable, can the DHIS2 mobile app capture gps
coordinates?

2. the Philippines has a national health facility registry already. Is it
possible to auto-sync the org units table of a DHIS2 implementation to this
NHFR? Lets presume the NHFR is a googlespreadsheet that is read-only (for
now)...

The use case is for community health teams to go around the remote areas,
open a form, capture data and gps, and sync it against an existing org unit
in dhis2...

Thanks all...

Hi Alvin

I’ll let someone else respond to your first question re gps, which seems like a good idea and also seems to be more related to functionality of dhis2 as a facility registry rather than as a routine reporting system, which I guess leads us to your second question …

If you really want to maintain your master list as a google spreadsheet then I am quite sure that it would be fairly trivial to have a script (or app?) parse that sheet periodically and perform updates to dhis2. Does the sheet exist yet and can I look? If so send me a link and I’ll let you know what I think. Though, given that your dhis2 is your prime repository for facility level data I am not sure if it is the best approach.

I would rather suggest using dhis2 as your facility registry. This is less complex, more robust and more likely to remain accurate and relevant over time. This is the reason we have participated in the openhie facility registry group since its outset - to ensure that dhis2 complies with and contributes to any and all emerging standards for facility registry management (fred, csd etc).

Regards

Bob

Hi Bob,

If I were still CIO then these decisions are easier done…but alas no…

Right now it is a spreadsheet with the ministry…

I will get the URL and send it over…
